Sweet Thing—Candidate—Sweet Thing (Reprise) | Pushing Ahead of the Dame

"Sweet Thing" ist einer meiner absoluten Favoriten, den ich erst sehr spät kennenlernte.
2000 habe ich auf BowieNet den kompletten Backkatalog von David gewonnen und erst da mein letztes fehlendes Album bekommen, "Diamond Dogs".
Und "Sweet Thing" hat mich total vom Hocker gehauen 😍
Haaach, diese Stimme!!! So komplett anders als seine Ziggy Stimme, mit der ich damals wirklich nicht viel anfangen konnte 😉

Ein Jammer, dass er den Song nach 1974 nie wieder live gesungen hat. Die YT Links werden sich daher heute auch sehr in Grenzen halten 😉

Toll fand ich es besonders, dass David den Song auch für sein iSelect Album ausgesucht hat - und dort alle drei Teile vereint sind, so dass man das komplette Werk auch dann bekommt, wenn mal seine Songs auf Shuffle laufen lässt. Sonst bekam man dann ja immer nur ein Teilstück zu hören 😉


Lustig finde ich auch, dass ich bei der Live Version von Los Angeles'74 immer 'Marilyn Manson' verstehe statt Charlie Manson 😆 Hab mir immer vorgestellt, dass der die Inspiration zu seinem Künstlernamen von dem Bootleg nahm, aber das stimmt wohl natürlich leider nicht 😉

Bowie hatte sicherlich Burroughs "The Wild Boys" gelesen und jetzt mit der Cut-Up Methode gearbeitet.

@Simone : In der Tat hat Bowie diesen Song nicht sehr oft live gespielt. Nur auf der Diamond Dogs-Tour und auch hier musste der Song zum Ende der Tour den neuen souligeren Stücken weichen. Als Ersatz gab es dann "Footstompin", "It`s Gonna Be Me", "Somebody Up There Likes Me" sowie die eine oder andere Nummer aus den gerade fertigstellten Young Americans-Album.

Halloween Jack verlässt langsam die Bühne und verwandelt sich schleichend  zum souligen und zugleich spindeldürren Entertainer.

Auf dem Plattenteller rotierte heute morgen "Sweet Thing" in der Version vom 02.07.1974 in Tampa. Da ein Truckfahrer mit Bühnenequipment von einer Biene gestochen worden und daraufhin in einen Sumpf (?!) gefahren ist, wäre das Konzert beinahe abgesagt worden. Sprichwörtlich versank ein Teil "Hunger Cities" im Sumpf 😉

Kurzfristig wurde entschieden, das Konzert ohne die Bühnenaufbauten und wahrscheinlich auch mit reduzierter Beleuchtung stattfinden zu lassen. Trotz weniger Theatralik haben die (Audio-)Aufnahmen nicht an Intensität eingebüsst.
